Wrap Up of last week's Real Estate Market and Legal Update by VDB Loi

We are happy to report that last week’s Real Estate Market and Legal Update, organized by VDB Loi and UMFCCI on 24 October 2014 in Yangon, was a great success!

The Update drew over 450 foreign and local participants and representatives from all major print media, MITV, MRTV and Sky Net, a clear sign that real estate development raises legal issues and questions for the business community at large.

Presenter Edwin Vanderbruggen, a partner with VDB Loi and the main speaker, discussed a wide range of real estate law issues for the audience, including MIC policy, registering security on local real estate and common problems with government land BOT contracts. VDB Loi senior counsel U Aye Kyaw, former judge and a lecturer on real estate law, explained a number of property issues for the benefit of the audio-visual media. Savills presented its first quarterly market update.

The participants were a mix of real estate developers, with most major projects in Yangon being represented, bankers, property service providers, lawyers and local and foreign investors.

The update was co-hosted by Savills and the Malaysia Myanmar Business Council.

The materials of the Update are available for free download:
